Goaltending...

I've been thinking in my mind of some professional goals that I would like to accomplish in 2013 in no certain order.

-Find a place to postdoc
-Get permission to write my dissertation
-Write the tome of irrelevance that no one will read but me and maybe the person who takes over my project
-Defend said dissertation
-Need to purchase body armor and padding for use in the defense to limit damage absorbed from committee
-Publish last paper (or two) from PhD work
-Start postdoc
-Learn new stuff
-Maybe write for some type of fellowship

What are some professional goals that you folks have in the coming year?  And best of luck to you on them.

hm, I did think about that the other day when I tried to sort out "exactly how much should I try and do next year". I like your "learn new stuff" 🙂

I want to get a professional certification (in my subfield). It's a test that's pretty tough, no lit around but "all you've learned since undergrad and through experience"

A promotion (or "lateral move" if that's what we end up calling it)

It would be great to finish and publish a technical paper, if nothing else but to hang in the publishing and it would be fun to change fields ever so slightly.

Get that manegment skill set going, since that's still a work-in-progress.

Oh and really get the "how much upset should I be at these results right now and how much should I lose sleep over it" since I've been wasting a lot of energy on that this year and only half the times was it really worth losing the sleep (or even 25%...)
